The pose?
Smiles aren't the only great pictures. Each baby is different, and
sometimes we all need a good frown. Occasionally those turn out to be
the sweetest.
Get close,
but not too close. If you are trying to only capture your babies face,
then get your camera closer to your baby. If possible try and avoid the
zoom option and just get closer. Zoom can tend to distort the photo.
Gather.
Have a older sibling, grandparent, or have someone take the photo for
you while you join in the picture. Emotions show in photo. It also
give others a chance to share in the bond.
Lighting.
You don't need a bright sunny day, or a room full of lights turned on.
With a cloudy or over cast day, you don't have the pesky shadow and eye
squinting like you do on a bright sunny day. Lamps and overhead lights
don't capture the true colors and quality.
Your best choice is natural light, not too bright.
What about
the Background? Keep it simple. Avoid those busy
backgrounds and focus on the baby. Open area's with a few trees or
the lake in the midst. In your background near a flower bush.
Things to avoid, a playground, large groups in the background off in the
distance. Remove any toys or props not used in the photo. If the
background is made inside, simply place a pillow down or a sheet as a
backdrop.
